Such a lawsuit may also be filed on behalf of a Fen Phen injury victim looking for compensation for the wonderful losses, physical and financial, suffered. Such lawsuits have already been filed in thousands of circumstances.

The Fen Phen drugs had been widely prescribed, hospitals and weight loss centers having recommended the drug though ignorant of the significant potential risks. This had been going on unabated from the 1970s to the late 1990s. Six to seven million consumers of such drugs had risked themselves unknowingly until, finally, it was recalled. Considering that then, the courts have been flooded with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Lawsuits.

It is a sad reality, nevertheless, that although thousands have suffered from harm triggered by Fen Phen drug administration, less than a third of them have been rightly compensated for their losses. Having said that, there is no need to have to shed heart. There are established powerful legal means of reconciliation in case Primary Pulmonary Hypertension affliction is triggered by usage of diet program pills. Folks can bring claims against the producers of such damaging drugs, searching for compensation for damages to pay for medical bills, physical pains and sufferings borne, earnings losses, deterioration in quality of life, and punitive damages.

Main Pulmonary Hypertension Lawsuits can beget millions of dollars for the aggrieved, by following the proper legal recourse.

Hypertension Clinical Features - Symptoms and Forms

Symptoms

Hypertension is normally asymptomatic or result in only proceeds uncharacteristic complaints. It is commonly occurring in the morning as a headache, which can be decreased by increasing the bed head finish. Other probable symptoms comprise of dizziness, nausea, nosebleeds (epistaxis), fatigue and insomnia. At high blood pressure, shortness of breath can occur (dyspnea) with exertion, angina pectoris, and visual disturbances. Arterial hypertension could possibly also long asymptomatic (with no symptoms). They generally make themselves felt only by the harm, which is why it is typically referred to as "silent killers or silent killer".

Forms

In an unstable and the load-hypertensive blood pressure values are increased only temporarily or under anxiety, whereas lengthy-term stable hypertension in the case. Malignant or accelerated hypertension is defined as a severe form with a diastolic pressure above 130 mmHg, which typically goes hand in hand with clear symptoms. In the literature there are indications, yet, various to the definition of malignant hypertension. In addition to nausea and vomiting symptoms such as headache, impaired vision and impaired consciousness, seizures and other neurological deficits in the foreground. Partially occurred modifications of higher degree, transcended the day-night rhythm in long-term blood pressure and the development of renal impairment are included in the definition.

The hypertensive crisis is a sudden dysregulation of blood pressure in the systemic circulation with a vital raise in blood pressure, commonly more than 230/130 mm Hg. There is a risk of acute organ damage, such as a brain injury (high-pressure encephalopathy), of acute heart failure, a pulmonary edema, a rarity of a heart attack or Aorteneinrisses (aortic dissection). The occurrence of such harm is recognized as a hypertensive emergency that demands prompt reduction in blood pressure medication is important.

Complications Consequences

Arteriosclerosis

Hypertension is recognized as a risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The main sources of sodium in the average U.S. diet. However, a pinch of salt and a dash can quickly add up to unhealthy levels of sodium, especially when many foods already contain more than enough sodium. About 11 percent of sodium in the average U.S. diet comes from adding salt or other sodium-containing condiments to foods while cooking or eating. However, most of the sodium 77 percent comes from eating prepared or processed foods. So, although you May limit the amount of salt added to food, feed, but can be high in sodium.

Sodium : Essential in small amounts

Your body needs some sodium to function properlySodium:

Helps maintain fluid balance in the body

Assists the transmission of nerve impulses

Influences the contraction and relaxation of muscles

Kidneys regulate the amount of sodium kept in your body. When sodium levels low, your kidneys conserve sodium. When levels are high, they excrete the excess in the urine. If the kidneys can not eliminate enough sodium, sodium starts to accumulate in the blood. Because sodium attracts and holds water, your blood volume increases. Increased blood volume, in turn, makes your heart work harder to move more blood through the blood vessels, increasing the pressure in the arteries. Certain diseases such as congestive heart failure, cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease can lead to an inability to regulate sodium. Some people are sensitive to the effects of sodium than others. People who are sodium sensitive retain sodium more easily, leading to excess fluid retention and high blood pressure. If you are in that group, extra sodium in your diet increases the chance of developing high blood pressure, a condition that can lead to cardiovascular and renal diseases.

So how to identify foods high in sodium?

The best way to determine sodium content is to read food labels. Nutritional label tells you how much sodium is in each serving. He also says that if salt or sodium compounds containing ingredients. Examples of these compounds are:

Monosodium glutamate (MSG)

Baking soda

Baking powder

Disodium phosphate

Sodium alginate

Sodium nitrate or nitrite

The three main sources of sodium

The average U.S. diet has three main sources of sodium:

Processing and preparation of food. Most sodium in the diet of a person comes from eating processed and prepared foods such as canned vegetables, soups, lunch meats and frozen foods. Food manufacturers use salt or other sodium containing compounds to preserve food and enhance the flavor and texture of food.

Sodium contains spices. One teaspoon of salt has 2325 mg sodium, and 1 tablespoon soy sauce has 1005 mg sodium. Adding these or other sodium-laden condiments to your meals either while cooking or at the table. Increases the sodium count of food

Natural sources of sodium. Sodium occurs naturally in some foods such as meat, poultry, dairy products and vegetables. For example, 1 cup low-fat milk has about 110 mg sodium.

The taste alone can not tell you which foods are high in sodium. For example, you can think a bagel tastes salty, but the four-inch oat-bran bun has 451 mg sodium.

How to reduce sodium intake

You May or May not be particularly sensitive to the effects of sodium. And since there is no way to know who might develop high blood pressure as a result of the high sodium diet, choose and prepare foods with less sodium.

Can control the sodium intake in several ways:

Eat more fresh foods and fewer processed foods. Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. They do not need to add salt. They also increase potassium stores, which helps lower blood pressure.

Opt for low-sodium products. Look for unsalted snacks (if necessary) and foods that have reduced sodium.

Remove salt from recipes whenever possible. You can omit the salt in many recipes, including casseroles, stews and other main dishes. Baked goods are an exception. Leaving the salt can affect the quality and taste of food.

Limit your use of sodium-laden condiments. Salad dressings, sauces, dips, ketchup, mustard and enjoy all contain sodium.

Use herbs, spices and others to enhance the flavor of food. Learn how to taste food with lemon juice, parsley, tarragon, garlic, onions, or instead of salt.

Use salt substitutes wisely. Some salt substitutes or light salts contain a mixture of salt (sodium chloride), and other compounds. To achieve that familiar salty taste, you can use too much of a substitute and actually not reduce sodium intake. In addition, many salt substitutes contain potassium chloride. Although dietary potassium can lessen some adverse effects of excess sodium, too much supplemental potassium can be harmful if you have kidney problems or if you are taking medications for congestive heart failure or high blood pressure that causes retention of potassium.

Learn more about Label Terms for Sodium

Here's what food product labels tell you about sodium:

- Sodium Free Less than 5 milligrams of sodium per serving low-sodium 140 mg or less sodium per serving

- Reduced/Lower Sodium least 25% less sodium per serving when compared to similar foods

- Added without salt is not salt is added during processing (when this product is usually processed with salt). The product may not be sodium free food, so check the nutrition facts

Diet very low in fat, but the fiber lowers blood pressure by about 10 percent and no weight loss or salt restriction .. Every third adult in North America have high blood pressure. This puts them at risk for heart failure, stroke and other debilitating diseases. Obesity, narrowed arteries, smoking, lack of exercise, estrogen, alcohol, and high salt intake contributes to the problem. It is often called the "silent killer" because most people who suffer from hypertension do not know it already has. There are basically no symptoms of hypertension at all. You just know that you have hypertension, if you have your blood pressure checked regularly. If you have a family member or relative who suffers from hypertension, you are most likely candidate to have the disease as well.

If you have extremely high blood pressure, you may experience the following symptoms of hypertension as follows:

Of chronic headaches

On the physical and mental stress

Vision problems (blurred vision)

On the chest congestion and pain

Breathing problems

Of an irregular heartbeat (palpitations)

Blood in urine

There are several categories of high blood pressure. They are as follows below:

Normal: Less than 120/80

Of pre-hypertension: 120-139/80-89

Stage 1 hypertension: 140-159/90-99

Stage 2 hypertension: 160 and above/100 and above

Since there are no symptoms of hypertension, preventive measures should be taken. Proper nutrition as eating foods low in sodium (salt), cholesterol and saturated fat can be an effective way to avoid high blood pressure. Eating foods that are high in potassium and calcium, such as fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and wheat is very good for lowering high blood pressure.

Gestational Hypertension

Hypertension is more commonly known as high blood pressure. About five percent of women who are pregnant will experience gestational hypertension, or pregnancy induced hypertension. This condition occurs when the pressure in the arteries becomes too high. This can pose a great risk to a pregnant woman and her baby. Fortunately, modern techniques can be very effective in controlling high blood pressure during pregnancy. Your blood pressure can change all the time. Your doctor will need to get several high readings before determining that you have high blood pressure. The blood pressure cuff will be placed around your arm. Systolic and diastolic pressure will be measured. Systolic pressure refers to the pressure inside your arteries during your hearts contraction.

Diastolic pressure is the pressure reading during the resting stage of your heart, between contractions. You may be diagnosed with high blood pressure if your readings consistently show a systolic pressure of greater than 140 or a diastolic pressure of 90 or higher. If you are diagnosed with high blood pressure before becoming pregnant or early on in the pregnancy, it is referred to as chronic hypertension. Many women may have problems conceiving if they have chronic high blood pressure. Gestational hypertension refers to high blood pressure that occurs during or after the twentieth week of pregnancy and does not subside. If you are diagnosed with chronic or gestational hypertension, you will need to be under close supervision throughout your pregnancy. Diet, exercise, heredity and lifestyle can all contribute to high blood pressure. Certain high blood pressure medications should not be taken during pregnancy so be sure that you consult with your physician if you are on high blood pressure medication and become pregnant. High blood pressure greatly increases your chances of having a stroke or a heart attack.

Pregnancy can also increase these risks, so it is extremely important to keep your blood pressure under control throughout your pregnancy. Your doctor will closely monitor your blood pressure and also regularly check for protein in your urine. When gestational hypertension is accompanied by protein in the urine, it is referred to as preeclampsia. Preeclampsia can be a life threatening condition. If you are diagnosed with preeclampsia, you may be required to stay in the hospital or on bed rest for the remainder of your pregnancy. Symptoms of preeclampsia include swelling of the hands and face, rapid weight gain, blurred vision, headaches, dizziness and abdominal pain on the right side. If you experience any of these symptoms you should see your doctor right away. Hypertension constricts blood vessels to the uterus and can limit the air and blood supply for the fetus. This can cause the baby not to receive the nutrients that it needs to grow and can result in low birth weight and early delivery.

by Dr. Eric Daiter MD

About Dr. Eric Daiter, the medical director of The NJ Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine, LLC, a leading NEW JERSEY INFERTILITY CENTER that offers a complete range of MALE INFERTILITY AND FEMALE INFERTILITY TREATMENT. It is by far the most common type of high blood pressure. The causes of this type are unknown but are likely to be a complex combination of genetic, environmental, and other factors.

High blood pressure is a 'risk factor' for developing a cardiovascular disease (such as a heart attack or stroke), and kidney damage, sometime in the future. If you have high blood pressure, over the years it may have a damaging effect to arteries and put a strain on your heart. In general, the higher your blood pressure, the greater the health risks. But, high blood pressure is just one of several possible risk factors for developing a cardiovascular disease.

If those temporary episodes occur frequently, they can cause just as much damage to your blood vessels, heart and kidneys as can chronic high blood pressure. In addition, when you have anxiety, you're more likely to resort to other unhealthy habits, such as smoking, drinking or overeating - which, in turn, can increase your risk of high blood pressure.

Even if high blood pressure does cause symptoms, the symptoms are usually mild and nonspecific (vague, or suggesting many different disorders).

Malignant hypertension may be associated with headache, light-headedness, or nausea.

Certain nerve impulses cause your arteries to dilate (become larger) or contract (become smaller). If these vessels are wide open, blood can flow through easily. If they're narrow, it's harder for the blood to flow through them, and the pressure inside them increases. Then high blood pressure may occur. When this happens, your heart becomes strained and blood vessels may become damaged. Changes in the vessels that supply blood to your kidneys and brain may cause these organs to be affected.

In 90-95 percent of cases, scientists don't know what causes high blood pressure. This is essential hypertension. Fortunately, although scientists don't fully understand the causes of this disease, they've developed both non-drug and drug treatments that treat it effectively. They've also identified some factors that contribute to higher blood pressure. These are arteriosclerosis (or hardening of the arteries), thickening or hypertrophy of the artery wall, and excess contraction of the arterioles (small arteries).

Essential hypertension affects approximately 75 million Americans, yet its basic causes or underlying defects are not always known. Nevertheless, certain associations have been recognized in people with essential hypertension. For example, essential hypertension develops only in groups or societies that have a fairly high intake of salt, exceeding 5.8 grams daily. In fact, salt intake may be a particularly important factor in relation to essential hypertension in several situations.

Hypertension is referred to as essential (primary) when the doctor is unable to identify a specific cause. It is by far the most common type of high blood pressure. The causes of this type are unknown but are likely to be a complex combination of genetic, environmental, and other factors.

The cause of high blood pressure often cannot be found in many teens with hypertension. When the cause is unknown, a person has what's called essential or primary hypertension. In cases where the cause of high blood pressure is known (called secondary hypertension), it is usually the result of kidney problems, hormonal disorders, abnormalities of the aorta (the main artery that carries oxygenated blood to the body), or a narrowing of certain smaller arteries. Most teens that are diagnosed with hypertension have essential hypertension.

by Peterhutch

Treatment of Hypertension

Hypertension (defined as a blood pressure 140/90 mmHg) is an extremely common comorbid condition in diabetes, affecting 20-60% of patients with diabetes, depending on obesity, ethnicity, and age. In type 2 diabetes, hypertension is often present as part of the metabolic syndrome of insulin resistance also including central obesity and dyslipidemia. In type 1 diabetes, hypertension may reflect the onset of diabetic nephropathy.

Hypertension substantially increases the risk of both macrovascular and microvascular complications, including stroke, coronary artery disease, and peripheral vascular disease, retinopathy, nephropathy, and possibly neuropathy. In recent years, adequate data from well-designed randomized clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of aggressive treatment of hypertension in reducing both types of diabetes complications.

Treatment Hypertension

The most recent committee highlighted ALLHAT's findings in the revision of its guidelines, meaning the information will now be used for practical treatments. The committee states that when compared to calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors and alpha blockers, thiazide-type diuretics are better first-line drug treatments for hypertensive patients. The diuretics excelled in controlling blood pressure, preventing cardiovascular events, are well tolerated by patients and are relatively inexpensive.

Methods We randomly assigned 3845 patients from Europe, China, Australasia, and Tunisia who were 80 years of age or older and had a sustained systolic blood pressure of 160 mm Hg or more to receive either the diuretic indapamide (sustained release, 1.5 mg) or matching placebo. The angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor perindopril (2 or 4 mg), or matching placebo, was added if necessary to achieve the target blood pressure of 150/80 mm Hg. The primary end point was fatal or nonfatal stroke.

Pills as a treatment for hypertension have hardly solved the problem. Even if you're taking pills, your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease is still at least two to three times higher than that of people whose blood pressure is optimal - 110/70 or less.

Slightly raised blood pressure may not need to be treated so aggressively, but regular monitoring is important. If you have very severe high blood pressure, you may need to go to hospital for treatment. But it's much more likely that you will be cared for by your GP and/or a nurse.

The results of OHTS proved that topical medication does reduce the incidence of glaucoma. After five years of following the patients recruited, we determined that eyedrop treatment reduced the development of glaucoma by more than 50 percent.

Most clinicians would consider some type of treatment for patients whose diastolic pressure (the bottom number) is above 95 and/or whose systolic pressure (the top number) is above 160. For patients with pressures immediately below these figures (140-160/90-95), the doctor will take into account age and other individual factors before recommending any medical treatment.

In the past there have been observations that people over 80 with higher than average blood pressure do better than those with low blood pressure but that's not necessarily because high blood pressure's good for you. It's more that at that age having low blood pressure is often a sign you have something serious wrong with you. Another fear was that blood pressure treatment would make people dizzy and more likely to fall.

by james sameul

Causes of Hypertension

A blood pressure of 140/90 or higher is considered high blood pressure. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, you still have high blood pressure even if you have repeated readings in the normal range.

Causes

About 90% to 95% of hypertension cases, called primary, or essential hypertension, have no known cause. Primary hypertension may be influenced by factors such as genetic makeup, weight, or salt intake. Research is underway to learn more about the role that genes play in hypertension, as well as to explore the association between hypertension and factors such as obesity, low birth weight, and low levels of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a molecule that affects the smooth muscle cells that line blood vessels. People with low levels of nitric oxide have been found to have high blood pressure; especially African-Americans with low levels of the molecule.

Family Ties to PPH Studies show that at least 15 to 20% of patients with primary pulmonary hypertension have an inherited form of the disease. It is unclear whether it is a sporadic gene defect in these families.

Two main types of hypertension are recognized. By far the most common is Essential Hypertension, sometimes called Primary Hypertension. This is hypertension in which there is no identifiable cause. Ninety five percent of all persons living with hypertension have essential hypertension. Although researchers have been unable to pinpoint its specific causes, several risk factors definitely increase an individual's chance of developing essential hypertension.

Changes in the arteries can complicate the problem. Normally the arteries are rather springy; in addition to expanding and contracting in rhythm with the heart, they adjust themselves to the volume of the blood and to other conditions within the body, stretching or tightening up as necessary to raise, lower, or maintain blood pressure. Various factors - stress, for instance - as well as diet, heredity, lifestyle, and aging, have a detrimental effect on the arteries. They become less elastic and thus less able to adjust to changes in the body; and they tend to become coated with arterial cholesterol plaque, a fatty deposit that clogs them, just as deposits in your house's pipes can cause your sink to back up.

In most people, the causes of hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) are not known. This type of high blood pressure is called primary, or essential, hypertension. In some people, the cause of hypertension is the result of another medical problem or medication. When the causes of hypertension are known, the condition is referred to as secondary hypertension.

Approximately 30% of cases of essential hypertension are attributable to genetic factors. For example, in the United States, the incidence of high blood pressure is greater among African Americans than among Caucasians or Asians. Also, in individuals who have one or two parents with hypertension, high blood pressure is twice as common as in the general population. Rarely, certain unusual genetic disorders affecting the hormones of the adrenal glands may lead to hypertension.

by james sameul

The Obesity - Hypertension Connection: Is Your Weight Putting You At Risk

Did your daily weigh-in cause your blood pressure to spike? If you are as little as ten percent over your ideal weight, and especially if you're carrying excess body fat in your abdominal region, then what you learn in the next three minutes as you read this article could not only help you lose those excess inches, it could save your health and even your life! More than 50 percent of Americans are overweight or obese and the numbers just keep on rising. These shocking statistics have doctors from the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, and American Heart Institute wondering how to stop the epidemic. That sudden shock of seeing the numbers on the scale inch up is not what's giving rise to your blood pressure. It is the ongoing, day-to-day strain that obesity puts on the entire cardiovascular system that causes blood pressure to reach dangerous heights.

Being extremely overweight and having high blood pressure is so closely related that it has even been given its own name: obesity hypertension. Of all the cases of hypertension in the U.S., 75% can be directly attributed to obesity. Deaths directly from hypertension or that had high blood pressure as a primary contributor totaled 310,707 deaths in the U.S. in 2002. It's a chain reaction (obesity=hypertension= heart disease=death) that all begins with how fat a person is.

Obesity is also a condition that is an equal opportunity disease. It doesn't matter if you are male, female, old, young, or the origins of your ancestry. If you are overweight, you increase your chances for hypertension and if you lose weight, your risk goes down. But stay overweight and your risk of developing hypertension is 5 to 6 times greater than someone who is at his or her ideal weight.

How Heavy is Obese ?

The first question to ask in removing the obesity risk factor for hypertension is "Am I overweight?" Obesity is determined by Body Mass Index (BMI), which takes into account the relationship between height and weight. A BMI above 30.0 is considered obese. A score between 25.0 and 29.9 is considered "overweight." Ideally, BMI should be between 18.5 and 24.9.

To measure your own BMI you take your current weight and divide it by the number you get when you multiply your height in inches by your height in inches again. Then multiply that number by 703 for your BMI. For example, if you are 5'6" and weight 165 pounds, you would multiply 66" times 66" for a total of 4356. Then divide 165 by 4356 for a total of 0.0378. Next multiply that by 703 for a BMI equal to 26.6, which is considered overweight.

How Does Being Overweight Impact Blood Pressure ?

When you are obese, your body needs more blood in order to supply oxygen to and nourish the extra tissue. When you put more blood into the same passageway of veins and arteries, there will be extra pressure on those blood vessels.

Weight gain is also usually in the form of fat. According to Mayo Clinic research, fat cells even produce more chemicals, which in turn add to the strain on the heart and pressure on the blood vessels. In addition, there is an increase in insulin from weight gain. This makes the body retain sodium and water, which also increases heart rate and decreases the ability of the blood vessels to move blood throughout the body, thereby increasing blood pressure.

It's not just how much you are overweight, but also where you carry your extra weight that can have a great impact on blood pressure. Risk factors are increased when added weight is in the abdominal area. This is because people with a so-called spare tire also have increases in blood sugar, which causes the fat to be deposited there, and then starts the sodium and water retention cycle.

Reducing Weight to Lower Blood Pressure

Because there is a direct correlation between obesity and hypertension, it makes perfect sense that by losing weight you can lower blood pressure. The proof is in the numbers. Blood pressure is measured in mm/hg. A reading of blood pressure both as the heart beats and as it relaxes, creates the dual number of X over Y giving you your final blood pressure reading. For every 2.2 pounds of weight lost, blood pressure falls 1 mm/hg. Realistically, an overweight person like in our example above could lose just 10 percent of their body weight - in this case 16.5 pounds and lower their blood pressure by 7 or 8 points.

Small Steps for Big Results

If you can conquer obesity, then you can take dramatic steps in lowering blood pressure. One of the best ways to combat weight is with walking. Walking increases metabolism and is more effective in the long run than more strenuous cardiovascular workouts. Those who are overweight should talk to their doctor before starting an exercise program of any kind, but all physicians will agree that walking is one of the safest, most effective forms of exercise. Good shoes that provide support to the arches will protect feet and knees from stress injuries. Also, walking on softer surfaces such as a grassy field or dirt road will give a better workout because more balance and coordination is needed.

Some other ways to lose weight safely and lower blood pressure include :

Reduce sodium intake

Don't eat within 3 hours of going to bed at night

Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day

Replace saturated animal fats with non-saturated, healthy fats from vegetable sources

Limit consumption of alcoholic beverages that are packed with calories

There are some risk factors associated with hypertension that you cannot control, such as genetics, race, and age. The people suffering from hypertension may fall into cardio vascular and renal problems. So, hypertension is the silent killer. The main cause of hypertension is the increased level of sodium in the blood which increases the systolic and diastolic pressure.

Moringa is the well known tree which is used to treat more than 300 diseases and disorders of the body. Moringa is the richest source of potassium as it contains 15 times the potassium content compared to banana. When the level of potassium in the blood decreases, the absorption of sodium naturally increases leading to hypertension. As Moringa contains sufficient potassium content it prevents the excess absorption of sodium thereby decreasing the blood pressure. Regular consumption of Moringa can increase the level of potassium and helps to reduce the pressure of the blood flowing to cells and tissues.

Moringa capsules are made using the pure Moringa Leaf Powder. Moringa leaf powder is nutrient rich and a vitamin supplement. Our Moringa Capsules are made from 100% vegetarian capsules. This is mainly because human body can differentiate between the natural nutrients and the synthetic ones. And moreover, the Vitamins or Minerals, when intake separate, they wont help much. Additionally, just as high blood pressure is difficult to identify, it does affect 1 of 3 adults in the United States alone. Coincidently, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension is a rare disease and it does not have a cure. If you were to become a victim of this rare arterial disease, immediately seek Pulmonary Hypertension treatment.

If you are diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, there are a variety of specialized treatments that are available for you. The treatments are effective for reducing symptoms, increasing daily activity, decreasing pulmonary pressure, and especially, providing an opportunity to expand your lifespan.

There are actually two forms of Pulmonary Hypertension, yet one of them is generally caused by other conditions or diseases such as emphysema or blood clots to the lungs. This type of the disease is called Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension. Unfortunately, this condition is often unnoticed or even misdiagnosed. The two diseases are quite different and so are the treatments. With successful treatment of other conditions, however, it may stop the progression of Pulmonary Hypertension.

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension is treated with a variety of medications. The Prostacyclin Analogues enables the vessels in the lungs to expand. More so, the drug allows the blood to move freely without resistance. The Endothelin Receptor Antagonists reverses the effects of endothelin which causes the vessels to constrict.

Another drug to treat Pulmonary Hypertension is Anticoagulants. This drug is used to assist with the prevention of blood clotting. Diuretics and Oxygen are also used to treat the rare disease. Keep in mind; most of these drugs have major annoying side effects that can be potentially dangerous if dosages are not effectively monitored.

Surgery is generally the treatment for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension. Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy is the surgical procedure that is very effective for treating this form of the disease. This is why it is so important that it is diagnosed accurately and in a timely manner.

Pulmonary Hypertension treatment is extremely important as there is no cure. The rare arterial disease is complex and requires much attention. If gone untreated or mismanaged, the disease leads to right ventricular failure. A final note: the disease has no racial connection and it is often prevalent in persons 20 to 40 years of age.

<span style="font-size: 10pt; In some cases there are palpitation of the heart, headache, dizziness, and fatigue, but there are many exceptions to these symptoms.

Thus, high blood pressure often is labeled "the silent killer." Secondary hypertension can be managed by treating the underlying cause. Individuals in the high normal and stage 1 hypertension categories should attempt to lower blood pressure through diet and lifestyle changes before going on a regimen of medications. Recommendations include :

All patients with blood pressure readings greater than 120/80 should be encouraged to make lifestyle modifications, such as eating a healthier diet, quitting smoking and getting more exercise. Treatment with medication is recommended to lower blood pressure to less than 140/90 mmHg. For patients who have diabetes or chronic kidney disease the recommended blood pressure is less than 130/80 mmHg.

Changing your lifestyle can go a long way toward controlling high blood pressure. But sometimes lifestyle changes aren't enough. In addition to diet and exercise, your doctor may recommend medication to lower your blood pressure.

Supplemental Oxygen : This is used for patients with low oxygen level in the blood. Lung or Heart-Lung Transplantation -- These procedures are employed for patients with severe pulmonary hypertension and extremely poor quality of life. It is the procedure of last resort.

Use of oral contraceptives. Some women are prone to high blood pressure when taking "the pill." Sedentary or inactive lifestyle. On the other hand, exercise reduces blood pressure or makes high blood pressure easier to manage.

by James Sameul

Build Your Knowledge On Hypertension

One-third of the Americans with hypertension don't even know they have it. Before the condition progresses into something more serious, like congestive heart failure, you'd better get it checked out!

If you are hypertensive, then it can be caused by many lifestyle choices. For instance, a 2005 study found that women who took 500 mg of Tylenol each day for headaches or pains were more likely to develop high blood pressure than women who did not. Users of cocaine and amphetamines, as well as smokers, were also more at risk.

High body fat, high salt intake, low potassium intake, high cholesterol levels, inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption and high stress are often linked to hypertension as well. Health experts say that this condition isn't so cut-and-dry, that poor lifestyle choices aren't always the culprit. Some people are just at risk because they're aging, pregnant or born into a family with a history of high blood pressure. People with hypertension may have to undergo several tests to determine the severity of their situation. The most basic test of heart health is the old inflatable arm cuff we've been seeing at every check up for our entire lives, no big deal.

A urinalysis where you pee into a cup is a very non-invasive way of checking the blood for abnormalities. In rare cases, an electrocardiogram will measure your heart's electrical activity, but generally, the little tests are enough to determine whether your cardiovascular health is poor or not.

What are the dangers of high blood pressure, you may ask? If left unchecked over a long period of time, hypertension will inevitably take its toll on your internal organs. Blocked or ruptured blood vessels leading to the brain can cause a stroke and weakened or narrowed blood vessels can cause kidney failure.

Some people develop glaucoma from narrowed or torn blood vessels leading to the eyes, while others develop a thickened heart muscle from too much exertion, resulting in heart failure. Atherosclerosis or aneurysms happen when the arteries sustain damage and diabetes or heart disease are the result of metabolic failure. The good news is that, unlike cancer or other conditions, simply changing one's lifestyle can go a long way for the person with high blood pressure.

  by Mike Selvon
